Which items can be borrowed?
Most (but not all) of the Library's stock at the Main Library and the subject libraries can be borrowed. Institutes of the TU Wien individually decide whether their books can be borrowed or not.
The item screen in the online catalogue shows whether an item is for loan, and for how long it can be borrowed, in the item "Status" column.
How long are the loan periods?
Most items can be borrowed for 4 weeks, some for 2 weeks or less. These loans can usually be renewed as long as the item is not overdue and has not been requested by another user. The loan period can be extended up to a maximum of 6 months.
Some items can only be borrowed over the weekend (from friday afternoon to monday morning) or overnight. These loans cannot be renewed.
Items from the open access areas that can be borrowed have the green "entlehnbar" sticker (4 weeks loan) or the orange "Wochenende" sticker (weekend loan from friday to monday).
No home loan is possible for:
- Reference works, dictionaries
- Books and journals older than 100 years
- Valuable items
- loose-leaf works
- other items with an item status of "No Loan"
These items may only be used on Library premises.
